Can you stay longer than 30 days?
Only with permission. The eVisa issued through Accès Maroc is single-entry: it lets you arrive once inside a 180-day window and stay up to 30 days. That clock starts on the entry stamp. There is no online extension button — if you need more days, you must visit the Préfecture of police (DGSN) in person and ask before the 30 days end.
Do not drift past the stamp date and hope for the best. Morocco treats overstay as a breach of entry terms. Hotels register guests with police, checkpoints check dates, and exit officers read stamps closely. A few extra days can mean a fine. Longer overstay can mean detention, deportation, and problems the next time you apply.
Act before the stamp expires
Once day 30 passes, you are already in breach. Go early, carry your entry stamp, accommodation proof, and a clear written reason — medical care, missed transport, family need. Officers decide case by case.
The 30-day rule and what officers expect
Your stay runs from entry-stamp date to day 30. Carry an ordinary passport valid 90+ days, return or onward ticket, and travel insurance for the whole period. If plans change, use this breakdown:
| Situation | Status | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| Within 30 Days, Need More Time | Extension Possible | Visit the local Préfecture about 2 weeks early with passport, entry stamp copy, photos, hotel or host address, funds proof, insurance, and a written justification. |
| Overstay of a Few Days | Breach — Fine Likely | Expect a fine and questioning at exit. Keep documents ready, pay any penalty, and keep receipts for future applications. |
| Long Overstay | Deportation Risk | Police can detain and remove you, add an entry ban, and refuse future visas. Leave through proper channels and seek legal help if held. |
| Want Work or Residence | Not Permitted on eVisa | The eVisa cannot convert to work or residence. Exit Morocco and apply for the correct permit at a consulate. Minors travelling need a parent-linked file. |
No online extension: Accès Maroc does not extend stays. Only the DGSN Préfecture can grant extra days, and approval is never certain. Apply early, dress for an official visit, and bring originals plus copies. If refused, leave before day 30.
Documents to carry to the Préfecture
Each city office works a little differently, but officers usually ask for this set. Missing papers mean a wasted trip:
- Passport and entry proof: Ordinary passport plus a copy of the photo page and the Moroccan entry stamp. Keep 90+ days validity.
- Photos and address: Recent passport photos and hotel bookings or a host letter with full address. If staying with family, bring their ID copy.
- Funds and insurance: Bank statements showing about €70 per day, plus travel insurance covering the extra days.
- Written reason: A short dated letter — in French or Arabic if possible — explaining why you need more days, with support such as medical notes or rebooked tickets.
How to request extra days in 3 steps
Go early with a complete file
Visit the Préfecture of the city where you sleep — around two weeks before expiry. Bring originals and two copies of everything.
File the request and keep the receipt
Submit the form, letter, and documents. Keep any receipt or appointment slip — it proves you acted before the stamp expired.
Obey the decision
If extra days are granted, respect the new date exactly. If refused, leave before day 30. Never work on an eVisa or let minors travel on incomplete files.
Common questions about extensions and overstay
01 How long can I stay in Morocco on an eVisa?
Up to 30 days from the date of your entry stamp. The 180-day validity on the approval is only the window to arrive — it does not extend the stay.
02 Where do I apply for an extension?
In person at the Préfecture of police (DGSN) for the city where you are staying. Go about two weeks before your 30 days run out and bring your file with you.
03 What should I bring to the extension appointment?
Passport, entry stamp, recent photos, proof of address or hotel, proof of funds of about €70 per day, insurance, and a short written reason for extra days.
04 What happens if I overstay my 30 days?
You risk fines, questioning at exit, deportation, and trouble with future Morocco visas. Police checks and hotels can also flag an expired stay.
05 Can I extend twice or switch to work or residence?
No. The eVisa cannot be turned into a work permit or residence card, and repeat extensions are rarely granted. For a longer stay, leave and seek the right consulate permit.
Need the full stay picture first?
Check validity rules and entry limits before you travel — then keep your exit inside the stamped 30 days.
