Morocco evisa / Visa on Arrival
No Arrival Visa Available

Morocco Visa on Arrival: Is There a VOA Option?

Short answer: no. Morocco has no general visa on arrival. Sort your eVisa, AEVM, or embassy visa before you fly.

Does Morocco offer visa on arrival?

No. There is no general visa-on-arrival desk in Morocco. Not at Casablanca, Marrakech, or Tangier airports. Not at ferry ports. Not at land borders.

This surprises some travellers. Many countries in Africa and Asia do offer VOA. Morocco does not. If you need a visa, it must be approved before you travel.

The eVisa system started in July 2022 on acces-maroc.ma. It replaced the idea of getting anything at the airport. Single entry. 180-day validity. Up to 30 days inside.

Visa on Arrival No General VOA
eVisa Validity 180 Days / 30-Day Stay
Airside Transit 24h TWOV Possible
Landside Exit Full Visa Needed

Do paperwork before departure

Airlines check Morocco entry rights at boarding. No approval, no seat. Get the eVisa, AEVM, or sticker visa while still at home.

Entry routes compared with transit

Use this table to see where you stand:

Situation Status What To Do
Arriving to visit Morocco No VOA Enter visa-free if exempt, or hold an approved eVisa, AEVM, or embassy sticker visa.
Airside transit under 24h (TWOV) Often Visa-Free Stay in the transit zone with a confirmed onward ticket. Do not cross passport control.
Leaving the airport during layover Entry Visa Needed Hotel nights, city tours, or terminal changes through landside count as entry. Full permission applies.
eVisa holders Pre-Approved Entry Apply on acces-maroc.ma. Single entry, up to 30 days. Needs ordinary passport, funds around €70/day, and insurance.
Consulate applicants Sticker Visa 90+ / 180+ Ordinary passport valid 90+ days past entry and residence proof of 180+ days, plus full file at the embassy.

Transit warning: two separate tickets can break TWOV. If you must collect bags and re-check, you cross border control. That needs a visa. Book one through-ticket when you can.

What to do instead of VOA

Pick one lane based on your passport:

  • Visa-free (65+ countries): USA, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, Japan and others. Up to 90 days. No form needed.
  • eVisa online: single-entry approval via acces-maroc.ma for eligible nationalities. Use it within 180 days, stay up to 30 days.
  • AEVM authorization: for Congo, Ecuador, Ghana, and Guinea. Online pre-travel clearance, not a border stamp.
  • Embassy sticker visa: for everyone else. Apply weeks ahead with bank proof, insurance, flights, and hotel bookings. Sticker stays cap at 90 days per visit.

Steps to take before your flight

1

Confirm your category

Visa-free? eVisa? AEVM? Embassy? One check saves a refused boarding.

2

Apply early

eVisa and AEVM take days, not minutes. Embassy files take weeks. Do not leave it to the last night.

3

Carry printed proof

Print the approval. Keep return tickets, hotel address, and insurance handy. Phones die. Paper does not.

Common questions on arrival visas

01 Can I get a visa on arrival in Morocco?

No. Morocco offers no general visa on arrival at airports, ports, or land borders. You must hold a visa exemption, an approved eVisa or AEVM, or a consulate sticker visa before you board.

02 What happens if I fly without a visa?

The airline will likely stop you at check-in. If you reach Morocco without valid entry permission, border police will refuse entry and put you on a return flight. Travel insurance does not cover this.

03 Which option replaces visa on arrival?

It depends on your passport. Visa-exempt travellers need nothing. Many others use the eVisa from July 2022 via acces-maroc.ma — single entry, 180-day validity, up to 30-day stay. Congo, Ecuador, Ghana, and Guinea use AEVM. The rest apply at an embassy.

04 Do I need a visa for transit through Morocco?

Not always. If you stay airside under 24 hours with a confirmed onward ticket (TWOV) and do not pass passport control, many nationalities can transit without a visa. If you leave the airport, even for a hotel night, you need full entry permission.

05 Are there any exceptions at the border?

Very few. Emergency or force-majeure cases are handled case by case by border police. Do not plan around them. Apply through the normal eVisa, AEVM, or sticker route with an ordinary passport valid 90+ days, residence proof of 180+ days where asked, funds near €70 per day, and insurance.
