How much does a Turkey eVisa cost?

There is no single Turkey eVisa fee. The amount depends on your nationality and travel document, and the official eVisa system shows it before you enter card details. The fee is set by the Turkish authorities and can change, so the amount displayed for your application is the one that applies.

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs also states that eVisas obtained online cost less than visas bought on arrival at Turkish airports. Many travellers pay nothing, because their ordinary passport is visa-exempt for short visits.

Entry rules change. For example, ordinary Chinese passports became visa-exempt for up to 90 days from 2 January 2026. Always check the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa information for your nationality before you apply or pay.

Do you need to pay for a Turkey visa at all?

Find your route first, because the fee follows from it. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa information list, ordinary passport holders of many countries can enter without a visa for tourism, usually for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Examples include the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, most European countries and several Gulf states. A few nationalities get shorter visa-free stays, such as 30 days for Thailand and 60 days for the Russian Federation.

Other nationalities, including Armenia, Mexico, South Africa and several Caribbean and island states, can apply for an eVisa online. Passport holders from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the Philippines, among others, can use the eVisa only if they hold a valid Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa or residence permit. Visa exemptions cover ordinary passports; diplomatic and official passports follow separate rules.

These examples reflect the Ministry's list at the time of writing. Confirm the current status of your own passport before you travel.

Turkey eVisa fee rules that apply to every applicant

  • Charged only if approved. The official system states that the eVisa fee is charged for an approved eVisa, so a refused application is not charged.
  • Unused eVisas are not refunded. If your trip is cancelled or you do not travel, the fee is not returned.
  • One fee per traveller. Each traveller who needs an eVisa, including children, needs a separate application and pays separately.
  • Fees are normally charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount to your card currency and may add its own charges.
  • The fee is shown before you pay. Review it on the summary screen before entering card details.
  • Changes need a new eVisa. An issued eVisa cannot be amended, so changed dates or a data-entry error mean a new application and a new fee.

How long does the Turkey eVisa take to process?

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs describes the eVisa as an online process that takes approximately three minutes and is available 24 hours a day. In practice the eVisa is normally issued as soon as your details and payment are accepted, but the official system advises applying at least 48 hours before departure so you have time to fix any problem.

RouteTypical processingNotes

If the eVisa system says your application cannot be processed, do not keep resubmitting it. This usually means you need a visa from a Turkish embassy or consulate instead.

Refunds, changes and mistakes

SituationWhat usually happens
Your application is refusedYou are not charged, because the fee applies to approved eVisas.
You do not travelThe eVisa fee is not refunded.
Your travel dates changeAn eVisa cannot be amended. Apply for a new eVisa and pay the fee again.
A typo or wrong passport detailAn eVisa that does not match your passport may not be valid. Apply again with correct details and do not assume a refund.
A payment fails or is taken twiceContact your card issuer and the eVisa support desk, and keep your transaction records.

The validity period starts on the date you enter in the application, but you can arrive on any day inside that period. Choosing a start date slightly earlier than your planned arrival gives you room if a flight moves by a day.

Passport validity and the 60-day rule

Under Article 7(1)(b) of Turkey's Law on Foreigners and International Protection (No. 6458), a passport must be valid for at least 60 days beyond the duration of stay allowed by the visa, eVisa or visa exemption. For a 30-day stay that means at least 90 days of validity on arrival, and for a 90-day stay at least 150 days.

The Ministry also advises travelling with a passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date, and airlines may apply the stricter standard at check-in. Citizens of countries that may enter Turkey with a national ID card are exempt from the 60-day rule.

Avoiding look-alike websites and extra charges

The Turkish government runs one official eVisa system. Many private websites with similar names charge a service fee on top of the government fee. Some are legitimate agencies, but they are not the government system. Before you pay, check that you are on the official government site and that the eVisa is issued as a download from that system.

VistoRoute is a private information and application-assistance service. Any assistance charge is separate from the government eVisa fee and is shown before you confirm. If you prefer not to use assistance, you can apply directly through the official Turkish eVisa system and pay only the government fee.
