Your journey should show Tanzania as a point on the way to another destination. If Tanzania is the destination for a safari, beach stay or business meeting, a transit category may be wrong.

Prepare the Proof

Keep the onward ticket and any visa or entry evidence for the next country. The documents should show that the route is genuinely onward.

Short Does Not Mean Flexible

The category is limited to a period not exceeding seven days. If you plan to stay longer or visit Tanzania, read the tourist route first.

Transit Is About Passing Through Tanzania

A transit visa is intended for a short passage to another destination, not for a holiday in Tanzania. The traveller should have a clear onward journey and enough evidence to show why Tanzania is a transit point.

Transit Documents

Keep the onward ticket, the destination-country visa or permission where applicable, passport biodata page and any airport or route information requested. The dates should show that the stay fits the permitted transit period.

Transit Versus a Tourist Stop

If the traveller plans a safari, beach stay, meetings or an extended visit in Tanzania, a tourist or other category may be more appropriate. Choosing transit because the fee is lower can create a category mismatch.
