Quick summary

You need four things to apply: a clear passport data page scan (passport valid at least 6 months), a 4x6 cm portrait photo on a white background without glasses, your travel details (dates, first address, entry gate) and a payment card. After approval, carry a printed copy of the eVisa.

Documents you need to apply

Every applicant must upload digital copies of their documents through the online portal. Vietnam no longer requires invitation letters or bank statements for regular tourist eVisas. See Vietnam eVisa requirements for the full rules.

Documents required for a Vietnam eVisa application
Required Item Official Requirement Common Mistake
Passport data page High-quality, uncropped image of the main biometric page. All text and the machine-readable zone at the bottom must be visible. Cropping the edges or hiding the bottom two lines.
Passport validity At least six months from your planned entry date. Applying with a passport that expires too soon.
Portrait photo Recent passport-style photo, 4x6 cm, solid white background, no glasses. Wearing glasses or using a coloured background.
First address The exact address of your first hotel or accommodation in Vietnam. Entering only a city name.
Entry gate The airport, land crossing or seaport where you will arrive. Picking a gate your flight does not land at.

Passport scan rules

Scan or photograph the full data page in good light, with the whole page visible and no cropped edges.
Make sure the machine-readable zone (the two lines of letters and chevrons at the bottom) can be read clearly.
Avoid glare, shadows, fingers over the page, and heavy camera filters.
Check that your name, date of birth, nationality and passport number exactly match what you type.
