Do Indian citizens need a visa for Vietnam?

Yes. Indian citizens need a visa to enter mainland Vietnam. India is not on the list of nationalities with a visa-free stay, so the usual route is the eVisa. The only no-visa option is a narrow, island-only arrangement for Phu Quoc, explained below. For the full exemption picture, see whether you need a visa for Vietnam.

The eVisa for Indian passport holders

Apply online while you are outside Vietnam, with a valid Indian passport.
Valid for up to 90 days, as single entry or multiple entry.
Available for tourism, business or transit, for stays of 90 days or less.
You can enter and exit only through the designated international border gates. See Vietnam eVisa entry ports.

The process is the same as for other applicants. Read Vietnam eVisa requirements to prepare and how to apply for a Vietnam eVisa for the steps.

Phu Quoc: the visa-free exception and its conditions

Indian citizens can enter Phu Quoc island without a visa for up to 30 days, but only if every condition below is met:

You fly or sail directly to Phu Quoc from outside Vietnam, not via another Vietnamese city.
You stay on Phu Quoc island only.
You leave Vietnam directly from Phu Quoc to another country.
Your stay does not exceed 30 days.

This exemption does not cover mainland Vietnam. The Embassy of India in Hanoi issued an advisory on 6 April 2026 reminding Indian travellers of these limits, and advising them to hold an appropriate visa even for a Phu Quoc-only trip, because an unexpected need to reach the mainland, for example for medical care, can create difficulties without one.

Cost for Indian applicants

The eVisa has a government fee plus Vistoroute’s service fee, shown in the table on our Vietnam eVisa fees page. Prices are listed in US dollars. If you pay with an Indian card, the rupee amount depends on your bank’s exchange rate and charges at the time of payment.

Embassy visa as an alternative

If the eVisa does not suit your purpose or length of stay, a visa can be applied for directly at the Embassy of Vietnam in New Delhi. Embassy applications are handled by the embassy, and its requirements and fees differ from the eVisa.

Pre-arrival form for Indian travellers

The pre-arrival declaration is an additional step alongside your visa, not a replacement for it. Since 15 April 2026 it has been mandatory for foreign arrivals at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat airport, and other airports may follow. See Vietnam eVisa entry ports.
