Medical travel starts with the treatment plan
The Thai MFA medical-treatment material identifies medical treatment as an MT or Non-Immigrant O purpose for people requiring treatment in Thailand and accompanying helpers where applicable. The exact category, period and evidence depend on the current instruction and case.
What the application needs to establish
The treatment is real and planned
Obtain a current letter or appointment evidence from the Thai hospital or medical provider describing the planned treatment and expected period. The authority may request more detail than a simple appointment confirmation.
The applicant’s travel purpose is medical
Explain whether the trip is for consultation, treatment, surgery, follow-up or another medical purpose. Tourism or unrelated work should not be mixed into the principal purpose without checking the category implications.
Each accompanying person has a role
An accompanying helper may need separate evidence and may not automatically receive identical permission. Confirm the relationship, need for assistance and category for each person.

Plan the stay beyond the first appointment
Before travel
Check the visa details, travel documents, insurance or funds, accommodation and the hospital’s ability to receive you on the planned date.
During treatment
Keep hospital records and notify the provider if the treatment schedule changes. Do not assume a medical appointment extends immigration permission automatically.
If more time is needed
Ask the hospital and Immigration authority about the correct extension or change process before the permitted stay expires.
