Do you need a Thailand Transit Visa?
There is no single answer based only on the number of hours between flights. Review the complete journey, whether you remain in the international transit area, whether bags must be collected, and whether immigration clearance is required.
Check these questions first
- Are both flights on one booking, or will you check in again for a separate ticket?
- Will your baggage be checked through to the final destination?
- Do you need to pass Thai immigration, collect baggage, change airports, or leave the airport?
- Does your nationality qualify for a transit arrangement, visa exemption, or another exception?
- Will the connection involve an activity in Thailand rather than simple transit?
Do not rely on a universal “12-hour rule”
Transit treatment can depend on the airport, route, carrier, passport, and immigration procedure. Confirm your specific case with the airline and the Thai embassy or consulate responsible for your application.
