Arrival visa route

Thailand Visa on Arrival

Visa on Arrival is an arrival procedure for designated nationalities and purposes. It is not the same as visa exemption and should not be treated as a backup for an incomplete e-Visa application.

Confirm the current VOA list before you fly.

What to verify before relying on VOA

The Visa on Arrival list and conditions are policy-sensitive. Do not publish or rely on a nationality list without checking the current official announcement.

Question What the official rules establish What you must verify
Nationality and document VOA is limited to nationalities and travel documents designated by Thai authorities. Check the current official list and whether your exact document qualifies.
Purpose and duration VOA is a short visitor route with conditions set by the applicable announcement. Confirm the authorised stay, purpose, and any onward-ticket or funds requirements for your case.
Where can you apply? The procedure is tied to designated arrival points and immigration processing. Ask the airline or airport and confirm the available facility before departure.
Can you switch routes? Arrival approval does not guarantee an extension or change of status. Any extension or change is a separate immigration decision.

Thailand announced a 2026 VOA revision

The MFA’s 19 May 2026 briefing stated that the VOA list would be reduced from 31 countries or territories to 4, with details to follow in Ministry of Interior announcements and the Royal Gazette. Verify the live position for your travel date instead of relying on an older list.

Prepare a border-ready file

Keep your passport or travel document, a recent photograph if the arrival facility requires one, confirmed onward or return travel, accommodation details, and evidence of funds available. The official Thai MFA service page has historically described VOA documentation and a short permitted stay, but mission and border instructions can change.

Airlines may also apply document checks before boarding. If your nationality is not clearly covered by current VOA rules, apply for the appropriate visa in advance or obtain written confirmation from the responsible Thai mission.

How VOA differs from the other visitor routes

01

Exemption

No VOA application when a current exemption applies; conditions are different.

02

VOA

Arrival application only for designated nationalities and conditions.

03

eVisa

Advance application through the official system for an eligible visa category.
