What the student route is for
Thailand’s Non-Immigrant ED category is intended for education-related purposes. The exact evidence and local procedure depend on the type of study, institution, applicant location and the instructions of the responsible Thai mission.
Start with the institution, not the form
The school, university, language institute or other education provider should confirm that it can issue the evidence required for the intended ED application. Ask the institution what programme, dates, attendance conditions and supporting letters it will provide.
Different study arrangements can be treated differently. A degree programme, exchange, short language course, internship, training activity, study visit or technical instruction may not use identical documents. The applicant should describe the actual activity rather than selecting a category because it appears faster or simpler.
The application usually has two evidence layers
The first layer identifies the student: passport, photograph, personal information, current location and travel details. The second layer explains the education purpose: institution letter, enrolment or acceptance evidence, programme information and any additional documents requested for that course or nationality.

After entry: the visa is not the whole student process
Students often confuse the visa issued abroad with the permission and administrative steps that follow inside Thailand.
Coordinate with the institution
Keep the school informed of arrival, course start, attendance and any change of programme. Institutional support may be necessary for an extension or status-related request.
Handle extensions separately
An extension inside Thailand is not automatic because a student has a visa or an acceptance letter. The Immigration Bureau and the institution’s current instructions control the process.
Respect the purpose
Do not assume student status permits unrelated employment or a different principal activity. Ask the responsible authority before changing the purpose of stay.

Those routes are designed for visitor purposes and do not automatically create student status. If study is the principal purpose, review the appropriate education route before travel.
Is a school acceptance letter enough?
Not necessarily. The mission can request identity, financial, travel, accommodation or other supporting evidence in addition to institution documents.
Can I change schools after receiving the ED visa?
Do not assume the visa transfers automatically. A change of institution or course can affect the supporting basis and should be discussed with the school and relevant authority before the change.
Can an ED visa be extended?
Some students may apply for an extension through the Immigration Bureau when the conditions and institution support it. Extension is a separate decision and is not guaranteed by the original visa.
Does student status automatically permit work?
No. Study and work are different purposes. Obtain specific guidance before undertaking any employment or regulated activity.
