Check exemption, VOA, and e-Visa availability for the passport you will use.
The best visitor route depends on your passport, purpose, intended stay, and the option currently available to you. This comparison separates the route concepts before you prepare documents or pay a fee.
The table is intentionally cautious where rules are nationality- or date-sensitive. Confirm the current official position before travel.
| Question | What the official rules establish | What you must verify |
|---|---|---|
| Visa exemption | Advance visa may not be required when a current scheme covers the passport and purpose. | Confirm the active scheme, authorised stay, and permitted activities. |
| Visa on Arrival | Arrival application route for designated nationalities and conditions. | Confirm the current list, border facility, documents, fee, and permitted stay. |
| Tourist eVisa | Advance electronic application for an eligible tourism visa category. | Check the category shown in the official portal and the responsible mission’s evidence rules. |
| Ordinary Tourist Visa | Thai MFA information describes tourism purpose, with validity and stay conditions attached to the issued visa. | Confirm the current fee, entry type, validity, and entry stamp with the responsible mission. |

Tourism and leisure are different from employment, study, medical treatment, or long stay.
Compare authorised stay and entry conditions, not only visa validity.
The Thai mission and immigration officer decide the operative conditions.
A visa’s validity is the period in which it may be used for entry; the permitted stay is the period granted by immigration for that entry. They are not interchangeable. A multiple-entry option can still have a limited stay per entry, and an entry stamp can control the date by which you must leave.
For ordinary Tourist Visa information, the Thai MFA service page states a three- or six-month visa validity and a stay of up to 60 days on arrival. That page also warns that fees may change without notice. Treat those figures as official published guidance that still needs confirmation with the responsible mission for your nationality and application date.
