Long-stay specialist route

Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)

The Destination Thailand Visa is a distinct long-stay category for qualifying applicants connected with workcation activities, specified cultural or medical activities, and eligible family relationships. It is not a generic tourist visa or automatic work authorisation.

DTV qualification is category-specific and evidence-led.

DTV orientation

The category has its own qualification framework. Use the official Thai mission or e-Visa instructions for the exact documents and fee applicable to your location.

Question What the official rules establish What you must verify
Who is it for? Official Thai embassy guidance describes DTV for workcation/foreign talent and specified activity groups, with qualifying dependants. Confirm the exact category and evidence for your situation.
How long is it valid? The Royal Thai Embassy in Washington publishes DTV as a five-year visa. Check the official mission responsible for your application because fee, document, and operational details may differ.
How long can you stay? Official embassy guidance describes up to 180 days per entry. Confirm the entry stamp, permitted stay, and any extension or re-entry conditions with Immigration.
Can family join? DTV guidance includes qualifying spouse and dependent children as a related group. Confirm the relationship documents and whether each person needs a separate application.

The activity groups are the starting point

Official DTV guidance describes workcation applicants such as remote workers, digital nomads, and foreign talent, together with applicants participating in activities such as Thai soft power-related courses or treatment in Thailand. The precise evidence depends on the activity category.

A DTV is not a blanket permission to take local employment. If your plan is to work for a Thai employer, perform regulated work, or carry out a business activity requiring another authorisation, compare the Non-Immigrant B, work-permit, SMART, or other applicable routes instead.

DTV is not the same as LTR or Tourist Visa

!

Choose by qualification, not by length of stay

Tourist Visa is for tourism. LTR is a separate Board of Investment long-term residence programme. DTV has its own activity and family framework. Comparing only the number of days can lead to the wrong application.
